South Lake Tahoe

This past weekend was amazing. Dylan and I drove up to South Lake Tahoe on Friday after work. We had no idea what to expect; we got a deal on livingsocial that came with champagne, a wine tasting, free breakfast, and a late check-out. Perfect. The drive there on Friday took forever because of traffic, but it was well worth it when we arrived and saw that we were staying at the most adorable lodge in the whole entire world. The entire town was filled with lodges, but ours was the only one with spiced wine and a fireplace in the tiny lobby. We got in our room and found our bottle of champagne waiting for us and there was even a box of chocolates. We also had a fireplace in our room THAT WAS THE HEATER FOR THE ROOM. Process that for a minute. Do you know how awesome that is? Anytime you want to turn on the heat, the heat appears as a real life fireplace. If you don't think that's awesome, you're clearly not understanding. Re-read the last three sentences.
On Friday we went to Freshies, a half vegetarian restaurant nearby. I ordered some quinoa and sweet potato cakes. What?? I know. It was delicious. Then we went back to the room, had our champagne and weird lego-looking chocolates, and we relaxed for the first time in awhile without any computers, TVs, or phones nearby.
On Saturday, I had the brilliant idea to go to IHOP instead of the free breakfast at the hotel. Two hours, 6 pancakes, and two sick stomachs later, we headed back to the hotel. There, they lent us two bikes and we biked down to see Lake Tahoe. It was freezing out, so we wore snow pants, gloves and hats on our bike ride. The lake was beautiful. Then some frat "GO LSU!" guys showed up, so we left... We rode around for awhile and then decided to go to our free wine tasting. BEST TWO HOURS OF MY LIFE. They had a machine in the middle of the winery that had different bottles of wine under it and you could make a selection for which wine you wanted to taste and then put your glass under a spout. If you're not understanding this, re-read what I just said and then google it if you have to. After that, we decided to go to a casino. That's right, a casino. It turns out we are both really skilled gamblers. I won $5 which is not bad considering I only bet $10 total. The real winner was Dylan who won $40 after only betting $10. AND he bet MY $10 so it was all profit for him. We ended up at Sprouts, an awesome cafe where we got fruit juices and smoothies. Then we went to The Brewery at Lake Tahoe where all the locals and/or drunks go.
Sunday we headed back to the Lake for one last time and then got breakfast before heading out of town. Driving back on Sunday, I can honestly say I felt more relaxed than I have since the school year started.
